General information about your department or program:
- History: The Department of Plant Protection and its departments were established in accordance with the article 7/d-2 of Law No. 2547, as amended by Law No. 2880, with the decision taken at the Higher Education General Assembly Meeting dated 07.12.2007. The department consists of the departments of Entomology and Phytopathology.

Department Program Outcomes: The Plant Protection Department primarily works to solve the problems of cultivated plants, ornamental plants and agricultural products of Iğdır and neighboring provinces. In addition to plant health clinical services, it also provides education, research and publication services.

Double Major / Minor Major Programs
Double Major Programs: It allows students to earn a bachelor's degree in a field they are interested in, in addition to their primary field. In this program, students can complete courses in two different fields and earn a diploma in both fields.
Yandal Programı: It allows students to take a certain number of courses in a field they are interested in, outside of their major. Students who complete a minor program are given an official certificate in that field; however, this does not mean they have a second bachelor's degree.

Exchange Programs
It offers students the opportunity to study at another university, either domestically or abroad, for a certain period of time. Thanks to these programs, students have the opportunity to learn about different cultures, develop their foreign language skills and gain international academic experience. The most common exchange programs include programs such as Erasmus+, Mevlana and Farabi.

Career
Purpose / Objectives of the Department / Program: The aim of the Phytopathology Department is to conduct various studies on plant diseases and weeds caused by fungal, viral and bacterial agents that damage plants and cause economic losses. Other goals include increasing studies on biotechnical methods and biological control in order to minimize environmental problems, contributing to studies on organic agriculture, programming studies that can shed light on integrated control and finding solutions to the producer problems of the region by transferring the results of the studies into practice.
